For those people wanting to experience the thrill of hunting free range red deer in Otago, then this is for you. Experience the thrill of spotting and stalking red deer in their natural tussock habitat. This is hunting at it's most satisfying and memorable. Experience the stunning Otago scenery while spotting and stalking.
Typically hunting involves using binoculars and spotting scopes from high vantage points, leaving the animals undisturbed until a deer is seen and the stalk is planned. Unguided or guided hunting trips can be arranged depending on your experience and preference. All hunts require a good level of physical fitness.
Overseas Hunters:
You need to obtain a visitor’s firearms licence and an import permit for any firearms you wish to bring. You can complete a Visitors Firearms Licence and Permit to Import Application online.
Packages and Prices
Unguided Hunting
Hinds or stags
9 points or under. $250/deer shot
10/11 point stags. $1000/deer shot
12/13 point stags. $2000/deer shot
14/15 point stags. $3000/deer shot
16 points and over stags $6000/deer shot
Exclusive H ut accommodation. Round Hill or Parasol Hut $300/night. This is priced for 1 - 4 people . Additional persons is an extra $50 per person per night. Minimum stay 2 nights.
Full day guided deer hunting
$700 for 1 hunter. $900 for 2 hunters.
Max 2 hunters per one guide. Includes lunch and refreshments, transport from Hukarere Base to hunting blocks. Use of firearms if required is an additional $300. Per animal prices are the same as unguided hunting and are additional to guided daily charges.
2 Day Guided Deer Hunting Package
$920 for 1 hunter / day. $1210 for 2 hunters / day.
Max 2 hunters per one guide. Includes breakfast, evening meals (all meals wil be themed wild NZ game and sourced locally and sustainably), beer and wine (good quality locally soucred), guiding and all safety equipment, transport from Hukarere Base to hunting blocks and hut. Use of firearms if required is an additional $300 / day.
Per animal prices are the same as unguided hunting and are additional to guided daily charges.
Non hunters are $250pp per 2 Day Package.

Hunting and Fishing Combination Package
For those that would like to combine their adventures, you may wish to fish during the day and hunt for a deer on dusk. Please enquire if this sounds like you.
